Im in college and I really want a cheap used 3 series because I love those cars. I found one thats perfect for me and in my budget (4.5k), its a 98 and has 80k miles in great condition. I already had my mechanic scope it out.
Im just concerned with reliability and cost of maintenance. Insurance will rise by a bit but mostly I’m talking wear and tear repairs, like oil changes and parts/labor on anything else. Most people have been telling me to get a Japanese car because it would be cheaper and more reliable.
Will the BMW really cost that much more to maintain and will it not be reliable? Some have told me that 80k miles is too much but I’ve seen BMW’s on sale with 150k+ miles. I used to get oil changes on my Mazda for 20-30 bucks, is that not possible with a 98 3 series?
Should I buy Japanese or get the BMW I want?
BMW all the way !!!

Car is for sale. Owner says keys are lost. Is there a way to start the car without the ignition key? Can the key be replaced the using VIN number?
yes you can get a new set of keys with a vin number. the owner should be the one to do so though. they will ask for proof. but it is expensive so dont pay for the car and then have to pay for a key, make them buy the new key.

Hi there.
Just to fill you in, I bought a July 05 plate mini a few weeks ago, it was a private sale. It is absolutely stunning and drives lovely, except one thing. In 1-2nd gears I get a knocking noise from the front near side. Also when going over bumps, but mainly if I’m going up and out of second gear. I’s like clunking kind of noise, when I’m going along nicely though it’s a lovely smooth ride.
Anyway, theres the picture. So next week I have booked it in for a clunk check. I hve 2 years left on TLC package and the dealer says I have used car warranty till Jan 09. The previous owner bought it in jan 08 from a BMW dealer so I’m assuming this used car warranty stays with the car like the TLC package? If they find something expensive wrong would it be covered under used car warranty. Any ideas anyone as to what it does cover?
Many many thanks,
you would have to look at the policy. Mini in the U.S. does not offer a used car policy unless it’s bought from a dealer under the mini next cpo program. Any other used car warranty would be an aftermarket outside warranty and may not be valid at all dealers.

Simple where can i find used BMWs from 1990-1999?
Hi, I found my 1999 BMW 328i on autotrader.com. It lets you put in your zip code and search within a certain radius of it.
