Where do I add the fluid for a 1988 BMW 325I Manual Transmission?

My clutch was working great and then brake fluid light came on, I rode for a few days (not far) but when I got in this morning the clutch went to the floor. Has no pressure, I am not sure if there is air in the line but I dont know where to add the fluid? PLEASE HELP!

The clutch and the brakes share the same fluid. If you have no pressure with your clutch, then your brakes won’t have any as well or will not have any after a few more pumps. You should take this one into the shop.

What is a failsafe mode for BMW transmission?

Fail safe or limp in mode means the transmission computer is not receiving one or more of its inputs it needs to control shift points so it will do a second gear lockout . Which means it will take off in second gear and not allow the transmission to shift any higher.You can usually go about 45mph just enough to limp it in to the repair shop to have checked.

1999 BMW 528i Leaking Transmission Fluid…What to do?

My 1999 BMW 528i is leaking transmission fluid. I was planning on driving from san diego to san francisco (500 Miles) on friday…should i get this fixed before i leave? and any ideas what could be wrong? thanks
So i should drive it on my trip and then fill the trans fluid?

drive the car on your trip first, then change the fluid just make sure it is topped off properly before you go. the reason is cause changing the fluid can sometimes be enough to cause the trans to fail completely leaving you stranded. the leak could be any number of things, probly a gasket or seal.

Should I get a BMW with manual or automatic transmission?

I’m thinking about getting a used BMW..most likely a 3series from the low to mid 90’s. I feel like it’s a disrespect to a BMW if I get it in automatic trans, but does the transmission make the car that much different?

Both are the same for dependability.

BMW 528 transmission hesitates… What should I do?

BMW problems… Please help!?

I have a 99 BMW 528i automatic with 77k miles… When I roll at 50mph and release gas pedal for a couple of seconds and then hit gas again the transmission hesitates a lot (feels like it makes 4-5 attempts) before slipping into the right gear. Also when accelerating from 0 when it reaches 50 mph it makes a growling noise before changing into the next gear. How bad is this problem?

Do you think I can use 3 instead of D? When I manually put in in 3rd, it doesn’t do that.

Also, another problem is when I am really low on gas (but still a couple of gallons left), when the empty light comes on, sometimes check engine light comes on too and the car shakes a little bit. What does that mean?

You might try having the transmission drained ,flushed and refilled and a new filter installed. and have them put a qt of good grade transmission cleaner in. I prefer TransX.

How long will a 1997 BMW 740i Automatic transmission last?

I am curoius how many miles on average this car model will last considering it is a BMW.

When you go to get it checked up on, just make sure the fluids are changed when they need to be, other than that, yea it may just outlast you haha

the longest automatic BMW transmission i’ve met was a 1989 735 at 210,000 miles, but i don’t know but one owner of a 740. But just treat it with love and you’ll be fine.

How do I replace a 1994 BMW 525i transmission control module?

Replacing it is very easy, the EGS module is located in the right hand electronic box (at the right side of the engine compartment, in between the strut tower and the bulkhead/
windshield). Right side is passenger side.
It is the module in the middle, in between the DME and the Anti Slip Module.
But after replacing it, it should preferably be coded/programmed and the adaptations reset (although if it is from a similar car, it can work without recoding).

BMW 535i Auto transmission problems-reluctance to engage 1st or reverse gear when warm.?

The car has just started to do this so before I have the gearbox rebuilt which was one suggestion by an transmission expert, has anyone else had this problem or could offer any advise? The car is 1997 e39 with a tiptronic sport mode.

Did the transmission expert look at the transmission fluid level and condition? If the level is ok but looks black and smells burnt then it is time to get a new or rebuilt transmission. But if it lacks fluid then it is worth the try to top it off first and roadtest before condemning the tranny.

How to repair reverse gear in a 2001 BMW 330I automatic transmission?

First dont start thinking your gearbox is knackered and seeing pound signs..

on e46 especially this could just be a simple software problem.. I would call your local bayerische specialist/dealer (stealer)

And ask them to hook u up to the diagnostics for about £30 and check for faults before going down the garage and saying your gearbox has had it, which will be well expensie.

Not saying this is the fault but 50 percent of the time when i buy faulty autos. you can sort them out by reprogramming try it first anyhows

My BMW X5 transmission is having a shifting problem when it warms up?

My 4.4 x5 is holding each gear up until around 4000+ rpms.
Once the speed drops slightly or below a certain rpms, the transmission does a hard shift back into the lower gear and the rpms and fuel consumption gauge jump up to a high level.
This problem is intermittent and happens after approximately 20 minutes to a half hour of driving.

this is an intermittent issue which happens after about 20 minutes of driving.

There are bulletins on that vehicle for transmission problems, too many to go over on here. You should take it to your local dealer. It could be a simple programming issue to needing a new transmission.
